Jim Momtazee Forms New Healthcare Investment Firm Patient Square Capital

Jim Momtazee is a veteran private equity manager, most recently known for his leadership roles at KKR, a global asset giant that manages private equity, energy, infrastructure, credit, and real estate, with a toe in hedge funds as well. There, he served as the Global Head of Healthcare. Last week, Momtazee announced his launch of Patient Square Capital, a partnership he hopes will become the preeminent investment firm in the healthcare industry.

Momtazee also announced that Maria Walker will join him as Partner and Chief Financial Officer. She brings 17 years of experience at KPMG, where her role as senior partner and a global lead in private equity practice contribute to her impressive resume that spans the private equity and healthcare sectors.

Patient Square Capital will focus on finding deals within healthcare, including biopharma, medical devices, diagnostics, digital health, technology-enabled services, consumer health, and the pharmaceutical value chain, according to a statement.
Early this week, Momtazee told Reuters that "We're going to be broad-based in our focus on all aspects of healthcare, bringing depth of knowledge, scale, expertise, and long-term view to our investments."

Momtazee was the driving force behind a handful of KKR’s biggest deals last year, including a $33 billion takeover of HCA Healthcare, Inc., which runs hospital systems throughout the United States.

Before joining KKR in 1996, Momtazee worked with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette overseeing mergers and acquisitions as well as merchant banking transactions. He has served on the board of directors for Arbor Pharmaceutical, Entellus, EchoNous, HCA, and Jazz Pharmaceuticals. He is currently an active board member for Ajax Health, BridgeBio, Heartland Dental, Global Medical Response, and PRA Health Sciences. Momtazee holds an A.B. and M.B.A. from Stanford University.

Momtazee and Walker will seek out best-in-class management teams throughout the healthcare industry and work on cultivating these resources to bring products and services to a broad market that can improve quality of healthcare. With his experience managing dozens of healthcare professionals across five separate healthcare investment strategies, Momtazee is fully prepared to develop his own successful healthcare investment firm.
