Ironman and Bold Entrepreneur: Virta Health’s Sami Inkinen

People don't get into entrepreneurship to be comfortable. In fact, Virta Health founder Sami Inkinen stresses the importance of being uncomfortable in order to make an impact. Sami also happens to be an endurance athlete.

Whether he's completing a triathlon, rowing across an ocean, or starting a company, Sami isn't the type to take the easy route. His 10-year-old company Virta Health is famously tackling the scourge of Type 2 diabetes by supporting sustainable weight loss - not drugs - going against some of the biggest pharma companies on the planet.

Having co-founded Trulia, a leader in online real estate, Sami knew practically nothing about the health industry before he co-founded Virta Health. But he met the challenge, not by strapping in for a comfortable ride, but by learning from the experts and accepting the difficult road ahead - kind of like a 2,750-mile journey across the Pacific.

So far, the challenge has been well met: Virta was recently valued at $2 billion. In clinical studies, Virta patients report weight loss exceeding FDA benchmarks by 150%.
